Kara felt the vibrations in the ground long before she heard or saw the troll coming. His dark shape appeared in the cave opening. He raised his nose high in the air, sniffing loudly enough for both girls to hear him. Then his hulking form turned toward Kara in the eerie pre-dawn light.
“Evie! He’s coming!” Kara hissed.
“Excellent!” Evie hissed back. “Now you just need to keep him distracted until sunrise.”
“How long is that?” Kara said aloud, warily watching the troll shambling toward her.
Evie turned toward the first glow coming over the hills in the distance. “I’m not sure…an hour, maybe?”
“AN HOUR?!?!?!?” Kara shrieked. “What am I going to do with him for an hour?”
“Just keep him busy and distracted!” Evie called back. “You got this!” She grinned and gave Kara ‘two thumbs up.’
