If you can’t recover and re-engage, it will be Deena standing over your inert body next.

The realization that Deena was just toying with you shakes your confidence.

You’re so stunned that you barely register the blue glove rushing at you from the right.

You don’t have time to duck, weave or parry.

You feel the solid impact of the glove from the side of your nose to the front of your ear.

It catches under your cheekbone and rides the contour of your face until it brushes off your eyebrow.

You feel your jaw lifting and your gaze rising as your head snaps backward and your neck cranes.

Your head reaches its backward limit and begins to recoil forward.

But your shoulders keep moving backward, taking your upper body with them.

Your feet are too far in front to recover your balance.

You return your gaze to Deena but she seems farther away now.

She’s getting taller somehow, looking down on you with a quizzical look.

It’s as if she’s wondering if you’re ok.

You’re not ok, far from it.

You think that it’s strange she would worry, that’s not like her to worry about an opponent.

That’s when you realize, she’s not worrying, she’s wondering…

She’s wondering if you’re going to get back up…

Only Deena stands between you and the title.

You cautiously pick your way over the fallen bodies in your path.

Taking the battle to Deena instead of waiting for her to attack.

Showing her your confidence and readiness to fight. You’ve got this!

You look down at the Nubian fighter you just defeated, unconscious on her back.

She was a formidable opponent. You take confidence from that win. You should.

it proves you are capable and ready for this.

Deena stands over the petite redhead she took out with an uppercut.

Another example of her arrogance, standing over a fallen opponent.

Boldly planting her foot on their chest, their back, their rear.

Just another thing for you to make her regret.

She’s wearing that half-grin she always wears. Smug and defiant.

You can’t wait to wipe that look off her face.

You begin to spar, trading blocks and parries.

Circling each other warily. Feinting and bobbing and weaving.

You score a couple body blows to those abs she’s so proud of.

You easily brush aside her jab. You duck under her right cross.

You catch her cheek with a glancing blow and make her take steps back.

She goes for a roundhouse and you counter with a forceful jab.

She’s yet to land a serious blow. You’ve tagged her a half-dozen times.

Your confidence grows the longer the fight plays out.

You know you can outlast her…you know this fight is already yours.

Deena’s moves become more cautious, more defensive.

She knows she’s outclassed, she knows you’re wearing her down.

You sense the opportunity and you begin to press.

And then you see her little smirk widen to the corners of her mouth.

Her eyes sparkle, and you realize…

She’s TOYING with you…
