Katie shows a little too much patriotism on the 4th July in Kesstock and offends a few young adults with too much time on their hands.

“It’s so strange being over here in the UK on the 4th of July.” Katie chattered into her phone as she left the underground station, heels clicking on the stone. Her long legs were clad in snug-fitting stonewashed jeans, and she wore a red-and-white striped cropped jacket over a blue halter with white stars. “No cookouts or pool parties, and everyone’s working. Poor Brits.”
Near the entrance she passed three young adults who seemed to be loitering about. A fair-haired handsome boy leaned on the wall, flanked by two girls in matching plaid skirts and white blouses clinging possessively close on his arms. While the boy was sharply dressed with his hair neatly coiffed, the girls’ skirts were scandalously short and their tops were open from their waists to a snug buttoned collar – their large breasts ready to swing free at any moment. Katie grimaced at their risque clothing and looked away.
“Yeah, it’s hard, I tried to get myself in the spirit with some patriotic wear, I mean the Olympics are coming up, and I watched that Copa soccer match – there’s no way that was offsides!” she continued in her loud conversation with her friend back in the states. “We got robbed!”
Katie saw the three staring at her as she ambled past, scoffing at her and her outfit with distaste. She heard the auburn-haired girl mutter something about ‘americans,’ and the purple-haired girl snickered. The boy just shot her a disdainful sneer, but his eyes flickered over her form.
Katie scowled at them, flipped her short hair deliberately, and turned her head to ignore the trio, making her way down the sidewalk. “Some people are so rude here! Anyway, I miss you all and I can’t wait for you to visit…yeah, I made a new friend I want you to meet, she’s a photographer and she’s going to do some glamour shots for me next week, I’ll share some with you.”
Engrossed in her conversation, Katie didn’t notice that the three youths had pushed off the wall and were following her, the boy pacing along beside while staring at Katie, and the two girls following close behind, still looking and pointing disapprovingly at her.
“Ok, girl, I’ll talk to you soon,” Katie said cheerily, wrapping up her conversation. “Can’t wait to see you when you visit next month. Yeah, I’ll introduce you to my new friends here. Bye!” As she lowered her phone, she saw movement and was startled to see the young man beside her.
“You an American tourist?” he said bluntly. He was a bit shorter than Katie, having to look up to make eye contact, but his gaze flickering back down to her chest and her bare midsection.
“Uhh…no…no, I live here…I work…I’m on a work visa,” Katie stammered.
“Tacky outfit,” the teen auburn-haired girl sneered from behind her.
“Obnoxious.” the purple-haired girl added. “Talkin’ loud and showin’ off your body like that.”
Katie thought their criticism ironic considering how the girls were dressed, but she bit her tongue. She remained defiant, though. “Look, I’m sorry, I don’t want any trouble, and…”
“You’re sorry?” the boy cut in. “So you know you’re being loud and tacky?”
“I, uh…I just…I don’t…I’m sorry, Sir…just leave me alone, ok?”
“Sir!” the auburn haired girl laughed. “Well at least she recognizes her betters, Schulzie.”
“Bet she could be taught some respect, Kat,” the purple-haired girl giggled.
“Yeah,” the young man said, looking thoughtful. “We should definitely teach her a lesson.” He nodded to his female companions, and Katie felt hands grab both her upper arms. He turned away and motioned for the girls to bring Katie along. “Kat, Billie…Let’s show her what we think of American trash.”
